BIOGRAPHY

The Swiss mezzo-soprano Anna Traub is known for her profound and dark mezzosoprano sound combined with raging coloraturas, and often praised for the interpretations of the characters that she portrays.
Besides being an active recitalist in oratorios, lied and chamber music, Anna’s international opera performances credits include roles as Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito (conducted by Richard Egarr, stage direction by Floris Visser) and the title role in Händel’s Orlando with the Combattimento Consort (conducted by Jan-Willem de Vriend, stage direction by Eva Buchmann). The press described her Orlando as: „Of course you shudder and live with the raging coloratura’s by which Traub sublimely paints the intense despair and delusions of the suicidal Orlando.”
Other past performances include the roles of Marianna in Il signor Bruschino (Rossini) and La Marchesa Clarice in La Pietra del Paragone (Rossini). About which the Volkskrant wrote: „Anna Traub as Clarice gets and takes all the space for her starring role. She leads this opera by her beautiful, dark voice and her subtle acting that shows uncertainty, sadness, joy and faithfulness…”
In 2012 Anna made her debut with the title role in Bizet's Carmen (stage direction by Floris Visser) and Kate Julian in Britten's Owen Wingrave (with the Nieuw Ensemble under the baton of Ed Spanjaard and stage director Floris Visser). For her interpretation of Carmen she was welcomed with great acclaim: “Anna Traub as Carmen is much more graceful than just a factory girl. Traub, who frequently appears in The Netherlands, plays the role with depth and an intriguing subtlety… ”Operamagazine lauded her Carmen as follows:“ A voice from thousands, ready now for the larger works. ” Just this fall Anna performed as Carmen again, this time with the Arctic Philharmonic in Tromsø and Bodø. NRK wrote: “Traub's dark mezzo-soprano created a perfect counterpart to the bright and sparkling Micaëla, and she toured Carmen's meandering vocal lines with a striking elegance and authority. When Traub additionally convinces through acting and dance performance, one has a Carmen of the rare. A few singers seem to be born into this role. Traub appears in this performance as one of them. ”Anna was a permanent member of the ensemble of the Dutch Touring Opera from the 2013/2014 season to 2016, where she performed again the title role of Carmen, Dorabella in Così fan tutte and the role of The Mother in Amahl and the night visitors (Menotti). About her Dorabella, Opera Magazine wrote: "The Dorabella by Anna Traub stood out because of her unique voice: she has an extraordinary timbre and a big voice with a striking dark color."
